Bushiroad Spring Fest 2014

Recently I went to the Bushiroad Spring Fest 2014 in Malaysia.  I joined the Team League and the Buddy Challenge.  It was extremely fun, but sadly I couldn't get in the Top 8 for both the events.  They were held on 2 different days.  I'll tell you guys all about it here.

 TEAM LEAGUE
Lets talk about Team League first.  On Saturday, I went to the venue and started looking for a 3rd teammate.  If we couldn't find a 3rd teammate the my father would have to join my team.  I ended up meeting a guy I met at a card shop I usually play at so he joined my team.  Name: Lim Yi Feng.  I got a bunch of awesome promos (Exclusive for Team League).  Oh, and by the way, I'm using my OP Spike Brothers deck, my sister using her Oracle Think Tank deck and Yi Feng using a Dimension Police deck.

First round.  Check out the venue and turnout.

Here are our team's results:

First round: WON! (2 > 1)
I got seated, waited for the judge to tell us to start when suddenly a judge saw my sleeves.  I bought them from ebay.com.  He took my sleeve and asked the Chief Judge (not sure, just a guy I saw him ask) if my sleeves were legal.  Turns out only OFFICIAL Bushiroad sleeves and Ultra-Pro sleeves were legal.  Luckily for me I brought my Dungaree sleeves (my Dungaree deck).  I had to first unsleeve my Dungaree deck, then only sleeve my Spikes.  I told my sister and Yi Feng to start first cause I took quite a while.  Anyway, I was up against a Nova Grappler "Blaukluger" deck.  I ended the game with my Break Ride + Limit Break combo  and won.  Yi Feng lost, my sister won.  1 win for us.  Damn happy.

Second round: WON!! (3 > 0)
Sat down, got started and got rushed like hell.  I rush him back but kinda weak cause I used up my cards to guard.  He rode DOTE.  I ride my Break Ride, attack normally.  He whacks me hard while retiring my rear guards as well.  Anybody who plays Spike Brothers know that this clan burns out your hand very fast.  I kinda panicked when I saw DOTE but then I had all the cards I needed, so I hold out a few more turns, waiting for the turn to finish the game.  Chance came, I filled up my field, swing in with max power, win.  Just as my opponent took his 6th damage, my sister told me that I could relax cause she and Yi Feng already won.  Totally awesome!!  Feeling IMMORTAL now.

Third round: LOST...(3 > 0)
We totally got slaughtered this round.  I was up against Kagero GRADE 4!! As soon as he break rode G4 over DDD, I couldn't survive.  Yi Feng was against Shadow Paladins' Raging Form Dragon.  It didn't matter anyway, Yi Feng was gradelocked at Grade 1. (Somebody REALLY needs to tell him that running 12 grade 3s means disaster.).  My sister was the last one to lose.  She was against Dragonic Descendant..  All I can say is we lost insanely and can only afford to lose 1 more round before getting eliminated.  Feeling worried.
FUN FACT: This team became the champion for this tournament.

Fourth round: LOST...(2 > 1)
So sad...My opponent got gradelocked so I had an advantage.  He managed to break ride Transcore Dragon twice which burned a couple cards.  I saw that he got a Tetra-Drive Dragon in his drive check so I had to end it then.  Pulled off final turn, felt so happy!  ...until I realized I was the only 1 who won my match. Due to this loss, we got eliminated from the tournament.  Oh well...
FUN FACT 2: This team got 4th place in this tournament.

Not that bad, considering we went to the 4th round and the teams we lost to were in the top 4.  While on the way home, I calculated our results and decided Yi Feng isn't really that good a deckbuilder.  12 grade 3s...
Me(Yeoh Cheng Jin) = 3 win, 1 lose
Yeoh Cheng Yen (sister) = 2 win, 2 lose
Lim Yi Feng = 1 win, 3 lose

To Yi Feng, no offense bro, but running 12 grade 3s is a road to disaster...

Since we were out from the tournament, Yi Feng went home and we(me, my father and sister) went for lunch.  After that, PR TIME!!!

PR TIME!!!
After getting eliminated, participants could join the free fight going on.  As the title states, free PR(promo) cards were given out if you join the free fight.
2 matches = 1 Storm Bring Dragon
4 matches + = 1 Binary Star Twin Gunner and
                       1 Shine Spear Liberator, Reinet

I rushed through my fights as fast as I could.  Collected my PRs, then played for fun.  Met a lot of new friends, chatted with them and had a great time.  Good idea, Bushiroad.  There were also some MINI GAMES going on.  If you succeeded in completing the mini game, you'll get a Weiss Schwarz PR card.
After the finals, a lucky draw was held.  Didn't win anything, never mind.  That's it for Saturday, now on to
Sunday.

BUDDY CHALLENGE
Sunday, most people are still sleeping at 10:00 am, but I was already at Berjaya Times Square at that time.  Signed up for Buddy Challenge and collected more PRs (muahaha...).  I'm using my cheapo Dragon World deck built from intro sets and random R cards.  Oh, and by the way, the Buddy Challenge is a best-of-three tournament.  At last, the tournament started:

Round 1: WIN!! (? > ?)
FREE WIN!!! Walked around a bit with my father because 1 round is 40 minutes long.  Visited TMT's store , GTM 24, upstairs.  Big shoutout to them for sponsoring this event.

Round 2: WIN!!(2 > 1)
Dragon VS Danger.  I lost the first match and started panicking.  My Buddy, Drum Bunker Dragon, was being abused by my opponents Hysteric Spear.  So I decided to switch tactics.  I left my center open while guarding with Green Dragon Shields.  Finished it with Gargantua Punisher.  Final match, use Systemic Dagger "Onca" to protect me + Death Rattle Dragon for more power and defense.  I  got lucky and drew my one and only copy of Million Rapier Dragon.  Double attacked, then used Gargantua Punisher!! again. Nice feeling to use G.P, makes you feel OP.

Round 3: LOST...(1 < 2)
AGAIN another Danger World user.  This guy was much more "pro" than earlier.  He rushed me and then cast Drill Bunkerr! to bring me down.  Second match, I cast MY impact and won.  Last round he called a size 3 monster and dealt me 4 damage.  He continued to deal large amounts of damage with every hit and I was soon overwhelmed.  I actually almost had him but neglected my defense for 1 shot at winning.  My aim was to get him to 4 damage, then use Gargantua Punisher to end the game.  Unfortunately, he had a counter spell and I died the next turn.

Round 4: LOST...(0 < 2)
Ancient World.  Nothing to say.  All my monsters had not enough power to even land a single hit.  I lost, due to getting hit so many times and all my monsters being destroyed.  Lets just say that to counter Ancient World, Sun Fist, Sunshine Impact is a MUST HAVE.  Maximum Skill, Breaking Flames also works.  However, I didn't have any of them so I died VERY quickly.  Too bad, I was eliminated.

MORE PR CARDSSS...
Yup, Buddyfight also had a Free Fight going on.  Once you participate in 2 or more fights, you get a Buddyfight Promo Pack Vol.1.  I played my two matches, got my PR pack, didn't get anything though.  Again, mini games were going on, got more WS PR cards.

While waiting for the lucky draw (waiting for finals to finish), I saw a guy I knew.  I first met him on Saturday and we played against each other for the Buddyfight free fight.  His name is Hariyanto Tan.  He is from Indonesia.  Nice guy, speaks fluent Chinese too.  Anyway, I played against his brother, didn't get his name.  I was kinda jealous of him having so many decks, powerful ones too.  72 pillars, Thunder Knights, Wizard...You name it, he has it.  Hope I can meet him again someday.

"Saisho Wa Guu, Jankenpon"

"最初はぐう,じゃんけんぽん"
Once the finals ended, they didn't hold a lucky draw.  They had everybody stand in front of the stage, then we played "Rock, Paper, Scissors" with a BUSHIROAD REPRESENTATIVE!!  If you lose, or draw, put down your hand.  Otherwise, continue playing until you're out.  If there are 2 people left, both players shoot for the prize.  Winner takes all.

As soon as they announced the prize for winning, my face melted.  ONE WHOLE STACK OF BUDDYFIGHT PR PACK VOL.1!!! ***Insane drooling*** UNFORTUNATELY, I didn't get a single thing...Feel free to donate PR packs to me.

STAMP RALLY
Aside from the mini games, free fights and workshops, there was also a lucky draw held by TMT/GTM 24.  You had to complete 4 challenges to get a chance at a lucky draw.  1st challenge: Take a photo on the stage in front of the big poster.
DONE!!!

Challenge 2: Participate in a mini game.  SIMPLE!!

Challenge 3: Participate in a workshop.  DONE!!

Challenge 4: Visit the shop and collect your prize.  I got a set of Cardfight Vanguard flash decks and PR cards.  Same for my sister, my father only got PR cards tho...(Binary Star Twin Gunner and Shine Spear Liberator, Reinet.)

ADMIN CHALLENGE
After a couple of sets of PRs were given out, other miscellaneous goodies were given out.  Again, no luck.
Then, the Admin Challenge started.  They will chose people to go onto the stage and battle with an admin.  I wasn't fast enough to raise my hand, so I watched other people play.  There were two tables, 1 for Cardfight Vanguard and 1 for Future Card Buddyfight.  At 1 point, Hariyanto's brother got picked to fight.  Hariyanto told me that if his brother won, he would give me a "Dragon Heart" PR card.  Oh, and did I mention that if you won, you'll get a playmat, a storage box and a deckbox? If you lost, you'll only get a storage box and a deck box.  Since his brother won, I got the PR.  Finally, they were choosing the last person to challenge the Buddyfight admin.  (I missed the Vanguard one because I was admiring the playmat Hariyanto's bro got.)
Suddenly, they chose my sister cause she was the fastest to raise her hand.  I was like: Holy ****.  If she wins I can get all the goodies...Result?? She won, and I couldn't stop admiring the playmat.

My sister playing against Admin Charles, and me watching.

Thats it, and I was totally exhausted after that.  It was like, 10:00pm by  he time we reached home and we still haven't eaten dinner yet.  CONCLUSION: Damn good tournament.  Hope next year will have the same thing.

Hi there, I am just a typical 12-year old Malaysian whom is interested in Cardfight Vanguard.  I am writing this blog for anyone that is interested in buying a deck to play with.  Since I am only 12, I do not have cards from every clan so please excuse me or just leave a comment if I make a mistake.  You are also free to discuss stuff about CFV in the comments area(please do not spam).

P.S. Information about these cards/clans/skills can be found at Cardfight Vanguard Wikia.

No.1: Royal Paladins

This clan was first introduced in VGE-TD01.  This clan focuses on superior calling units to rear guard positions then powering up other units(King of Knights, Alfred).  Lately, more Royal Paladin support have been released.  This clan has an entire new build based on the Jewel Knights archetype(and liberator).  The Jewel Knights series have all the goodies ever released(Break Ride, Quintet Wall, etc)they even have a Reversed Unit.  Other than that, a Royals Mega Trial Deck has also been released(used by DAIGO in the anime)featuring Sanctuary Guard Dragon.  This card powers up similarly to Alfred.  It is pretty awesome considering this is supposed to be a Trial Deck card.  This clan also has a card that powers up by mixing cards from two different clans, try to find out by yourself (>o<).TIP: Type MLB into the website above.

The older version of Royal Paladins rely on a lot of key cards like Barcgal and Llew's skill for a superior ride.  Taking out cards like this can cause the player to be stuck at grade 2 for a while.  When you are fighting against a Majesty Lord Blaster deck, you are pretty hopeless as his key cards are easily obtained.  Perfect Guards are the way to go, always.(Quintet Wall? Nah, not so much).

No.2: Kagero

This clan has the best Trial Deck ever! Most of the cards you need to build a Kagero deck are found in it.  Kagero focuses mainly on retiring your opponent's units. There is also a new build featuring "Seal Dragons".  I am not sure what the strategy for this build because I am not a Kagero player.  However, I always play against Kagero players whenever I play at a shop.  The traditional version of Kagero features Dragonic Overlord The End's ultimate skill to stand and attack again really spells THE END for the opponent especially when combined with Kagero's new break ride unit: Dauntless Drive Dragon.  This combo will guarantee a final turn unless your opponent's hand size is huge.......

Kagero is one of the most consistent clan around.  Now, Kagero has broken the limits and gone up to Grade 4!! Yes,I kid you not, Grade 4! 4! 4! Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit here but this is unbelievable.  The skill is totally awesome.  Go on, read it.------------->OohLaLa!!!    Many Kagero players will definitely want to include this card in their deck.  Unfortunately, fantastic cards also come at BOMBASTIC prices.  Players with a small budget(like me)should not play this clan due to the prices of the cards(DOTE and DDD).

No.3: Nova Grappler

The most spam-tastic clan ever! This clan's main strategy is to stand units during the battle phase for more attacks.  Nova Grapplers have plenty of generations.  It all started with Asura Kaiser and Mr Invincible.  After that, the Stern Blaukluger ride chain was released.  In VGE-BT06, Beast Deity, Azure Dragon was released and had a couple of support cards just for it.  Ultra Beast Deity, Illuminal Dragon was released in VGE-BT09, a crossride form of Azure Dragon.  Beast Deity, Golden Anglet was also released to work with Illuminal Dragon's Limit Break.  The Raizers build was released in VGE-EB01.  Unfortunately the Raizers are not as good as they look.  They cause you to deplete your hand if you want to push it to the limit.  Later in EB04, a lot of reprints were err.....reprinted including Gold Rutile(A trial deck card)as a R card.  Other than that, a whole new Death Army build was released.  This build is also, sadly, not very good.  This build's strategy can be summed up with one word: GREED! You rest four units for +10k and get perfect guarded.  As if an attack from the vanguard doesn't attract perfect guards during late game.

This clan is overflowing with different builds.  I recommend all new players to play this clan as it can easily help you to understand the game more easily.  All the strategies are also really simple and easy to master.
